Tea buyer specification guide

How to Specify a Custom Tea Tin Before Sampling

A request such as “100 g tea tin” is not a complete packaging specification. Leaf form, bulk density, inner packaging and headspace all change the volume required. Use current catalog formats as starting references, then validate the selected structure with your tea or inner pack.

01

Start with the tea form and filling method.

Loose-leaf tea, tea bags, sachets, powdered tea and multi-item gift sets do not load in the same way. Tea can be packed in direct contact with the tin, inside a foil pouch or sachet, or with another customer-specified inner-pack arrangement.

State the contact and filling method early. It affects internal clearance, coating review, supporting documents and how the lid, insert or divider is evaluated.

02

Confirm capacity from volume, not net weight alone.

A 100 g target does not point to one universal tin size. Whole leaves, rolled tea, broken leaf, herbal blends and powder can occupy very different volumes.

Send a physical tea sample, target fill volume, bulk-density information or the finished inner-pack dimensions. Junmei can then check the selected format, filling clearance and headspace before capacity is confirmed. Product-card dimensions describe the container, not a guaranteed tea fill weight.

Shape & closure

Match the structure to the shelf and opening experience.

Junmei can manufacture and evaluate multiple tea-tin shapes and closure structures. Shape affects footprint, carton use, artwork layout and tooling; the closure affects opening feel, repeated use and protection. The final combination is confirmed against the required dimensions, product use, tooling and performance target.

Round tins

Canister-style presentation and a continuous print surface.

Closure structures

Slip-lid, plug-lid, metal inner-lid and double-lid directions are evaluated with the selected size, shape and opening requirement.

Protection & food contact

How are moisture, airtight and food-contact requirements reviewed?

Junmei supports food-safe custom tea tin packaging within the material, coating, contact and document scope confirmed for the project. Most Junmei tin formats are designed for reliable lid fit and strong moisture protection, especially for food packaging applications. Strict airtight performance is treated as a project requirement: define the contents, closure, use conditions and acceptance method, then use lid-fit inspection, air-leak testing, a customer-specified protocol or third-party testing as appropriate.

Review quality controls and available project documents →
Direct contact

Tinplate, inner coating, intended use, target market and available documentation are matched to the project.

Inner-packed tea

When tea is inside a foil pouch, sachet or another inner pack, evaluate the tin and inner pack together rather than assuming the tin alone controls shelf life.

Window review

A window can support product display, but its effect on light exposure, structure and sealing requirements must be reviewed before sampling.

After shortlisting

What can be customized?

The selected structure sets the practical boundary. Junmei reviews these variables together rather than treating them as independent add-ons.

MOQ, samples and production

MOQ

Starts from 3,000 pieces. Final MOQ depends on size, structure, printing requirements, artwork versions and tooling.

Samples

Typically ready in 3–7 working days after specifications and artwork are confirmed. Complex tooling or special finishes are reviewed separately.

Bulk Production

Typically about 25 days after the required sample or artwork approval and order confirmation. Shipping time is not included.

Prepare your brief

What should you send for a useful tea-tin recommendation?

With these inputs, Junmei can compare relevant formats, identify what still requires capacity, structure or tooling confirmation, and prepare a clearer review before quotation.

Use the Tin Box Design Guide for artwork preparation, or send the project brief when your requirements are ready.
